GADHAFI ASKS FOR TURKEY'S ASSISTANCE
Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, who declared an immediate cease-fire after the UN Security Council decided to launch an air operation, has asked Turkey to monitor the cease-fire. Meanwhile, Nasir al Mani, a member of Libyan interim council, met Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in Ankara called on Turkey to extend support to the opponents in Libya.
ERDOGAN TO DECIDE ABOUT EVREN
The government has submitted a bill amending the Law on Military Judges to the parliament. The bill authorizes the prime minister to launch an investigation against chief of the General Staff and commanders of the land, air, naval and gendarmerie forces. Accordingly, Prime Minister Erdogan will decide whether to launch an investigation against Kenan Evren, former chief of the General Staff who became the seventh president of Turkey after leading the military coup in 1980.

ANOTHER PACKAGE
The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) has offered another package. According to the package, each university student will be provided with a scholarship. University entrance exam, the Higher Education Board and university fees will be ended.

The government has supported the UN resolution allowing international military intervention against Libya. Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that Turkey would welcome any attempt to put an end to killing of civilians. Two weeks before, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan indicated that they were opposed to any military intervention.

The referendum proposal brought forward by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan regarding the "military service by payment" issue was this time voiced by the opposition concerning the construction of Turkey's first nuclear power plant. The Turkish energy minister replied to such demand: "We have a great need of energy. There is no need for a referendum".

"March 18 Canakkale Naval Victory and Martyrs Day" reminded of the glory and joy of the victory won by Turkish soldiers 96 years ago. Speaking at a ceremony held in northwestern Canakkale province to mark this day, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, "The spirit of Canakkale should be understood well. Republic of Turkey was established on ties of brotherhood".

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey carried on with its EU negotiation process patiently. Replying to questions of reporters on his way from Russia to Turkey, Erdogan said the process was blocked by one or two leaders. "I do not when our patience will end," the premier said.
Erdogan noted that Turkey would adjust itself according to upcoming developments. "Now, there is a developing Turkey. We have our versions of EU's institutions. They will sooner or later invite us into the union," he said.

The 96th anniversary of Canakkale Naval Victory was celebrated all across Turkey yesterday. One of the most joyful ceremonies was held in northwestern Canakkale province. Prime Minister Erdogan, who poured the soil brought from Turkey's 80 provinces onto the martyrdom monument, addressed the crowds. "You are the children of a generation which has written history in Canakkale," the premier said.
