WE MAY EXTEND MILITARY SUPPORT
Turkish capital of Ankara experienced busy hours after ally countries initiated an operation against Libya. Releasing a statement on the issue at midnight, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "Turkey will make the necessary national contributions to the process with an understanding that protects the welfare of the Libyan nation".

ERDOGAN: WE DO NOT WANT A NEW KARBALA INCIDENT
As international forces launched a military operation against Libya and Saudi Arabia displays violence against rising Shiite protests, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan started his visit to Saudi Arabia. Erdogan is expected to meet with King Abdallah bin Abd al-Aziz Al Saud tomorrow unless the gathering is cancelled due to King's health problem. According to officials from the prime ministry, if the meeting takes place, Erdogan will tell the Saudi Arabian King that Turkey did not want to see a new Karbala incident.

TURKISH F-16s READY  
Ankara has developed a multi-choice plan in the face of the developments in the Mediterranean. If NATO undertakes the UN-sponsored air operation, Turkey will join it with its F-16s. On the other hand, Turkey is absolutely against a land operation. Turkey informed the USA and some of the EU-member states on its opinions. 

NUCLEAR MOVE
Greece has called on the European Union to prevent construction of a nuclear power plant in Turkey. Earlier, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that a ground-breaking ceremony would take place in May for the Akkuyu Nuclear power Plant. Greek President Karolos Papoulias described Turkey's attempt to construct a nuclear power plant on a fault line as 'meaningless'.

PROTECT CIVILIANS
After Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu's telephone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and British Foreign Secretary William Hague, Turkish capital of Ankara has also stepped in the process concerning Libya. Releasing a statement, Turkish Foreign Ministry said Turkey would make the necessary national contributions to the process provided that UN Security Council's decisions on the matter were implemented with an understanding that would protect the welfare of the Libyan nation.

MOBBING REGULATION
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has started a war against mobbing. Accordingly, a council will be set up to fight with acts of mobbing. In Erdogan's 8-article circular, it is stated that fight against mobbing is primarily the responsibility of the employer. "All employees shall refrain from all kinds of acts that could be described as psychological abuse," the circular noted.

The Western powers have launched an air strike against Libya. France, which was considered as a long-standing friend by Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, dropped the first missiles on the north African country. Turkey's Foreign Ministry said that NATO-member Turkey would make the necessary and appropriate national contribution to implementing the UN resolution. 

MARCH FOR A FREE PRESS
Journalists have gathered in Ankara this time to protest arrests of their colleagues Nedim Sener and Ahmet Sik. They marched to the capital's Kizilay Square by chanting slogans "freedom for press". Saturday's protest came weeks after seven more journalists were arrested over links to an organization known as Ergenekon.

Retired Gen. Hilmi Ozkok, former chief of the General Staff, said about the alleged coup plans known publicly as Ergenekon and Balyoz, "the judiciary will make the final decision." "They first defined the Ergenekon as a terrorist organization. But now, it has become a roof," he said. 

FREE PRESS FOR A FREE SOCIETY
Hundreds of journalists have gathered in a protest organized in Ankara by the Freedom for Journalists Platform to extend support to their colleagues in jail. Ercan Ipekci, chairman of the Platform, said that 68 journalists were arrested as contributing to the struggle for democratization with their news reports and books.

SIT ON VOTING BOX
Republican People's Party (CHP) has decided to assign 2 people for each ballot box in the upcoming general elections in an effort to protect the 160,000 voting boxes all across the country. Accordingly, CHP has started training the future polling clerks. Here is CHP's suggestion to trainees: "Get a torch. If there is an electricity cut, sit on the voting box immediately and do not stand up".

"OLD" NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS ON BOTH SIDES OF TURKEY
As Japan is dragged towards a disaster after explosions at a nuclear power plant following the recent earthquake and tsunami in the country, Turkey is faced with the a great danger due to the problematic nuclear power plants located in Romania in its west and its eastern neighbor Armenia. The Metsamor power plant in Armenia started operating in 1980 and was heavily damaged due to a 6.9-magnitude earthquake 8 years later. The plant, which was closed down and re-opened due to energy demand in following years, is located only 16 km away from Turkey's eastern Igdir province. Meanwhile, the two reactors of the Cernavoda nuclear power plant in Romania frequently experience problems.

A TURKISH WOMAN GIVES DIRECTIONS TO MONEY IN MIDDLE EAST
Sibel Kulaksiz, senior export of the World Bank of Turkish descent, gives directions to money in the Middle East. She is the one who develops remedies for problematic regions. Now, she has been appointed to Iraq. 

TURKISH CONTRACTORS ASSUME PROJECTS WORTH $20.3 BLN
State Minister for Foreign Trade Zafer Caglayan said that Turkish contractors had undertaken a total of 517 projects worth $20.3 billion in 48 countries in 2010. Caglayan said at a press conference that Turkish contractors had worked the most in Turkmenistan last year, as the total worth of the projects they had assumed in this country reached $4.3 billion. Caglayan said Turkmenistan was followed in the ranking by Libya with a total amount of $2.5 billion, Iraq with projects reaching $2.2 billion and Russia with projects amounting to $1.7 billion.

TURKEY NOT AGAINST NATO'S AIR OPERATION
Ankara, which has supported UN's "flight restriction" for Libya, will not object to NATO's air operation against this country either. Turkey will remain at the background during the operation and will not send fighter jets under the current circumstances. According to diplomatic sources, Turkey and Germany's concerns in the process were eliminated and the two countries now had a milder stance regarding the operation.

DO NOT LET JOY OF NEVRUZ BE OVERSHADOWED 
It has been learnt that terrorist organization PKK is planning to turn the upcoming Nevruz Festival into an act of provocation. Upon such information, the Police Department said that those willing to overshadow the celebrations should not be permitted. The department asked provincial organizations to intensify precautions.

GIANT PLANE IN TURKEY
The world's biggest passenger plane Airbus 380 has arrived in Turkey on a promotion flight. The Airbus 380 of the Lufthansa Airlines remained at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport for about 1 and an half hours. Then, it left for Malta. The plane is about $230 million.  

COELHO IN ISTANBUL
Worldwide famous novelist Paul Coelho has come to Istanbul to attend Saint Joseph Day ceremonies. He chooses a different country each year to attend celebrations. He also promoted his latest book "Elif" at a press conference in Istanbul.
