MALAYSIA-NORTH KOREA TO ENHANCE INFORMATION COOPERATION

KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 (Bernama) -– Malaysia and North Korea will enhance cooperation in information-related areas that include news and television documentaries exchange.
The agreement was reached at the joint preparatory meeting on Information Cooperation between Malaysia and North Korea held at Angkasapuri here.
Angkasapuri is the main governmental building for Malaysia's Ministry of Information.
Bernama Editor-in-Chief Yong Soo Heong told the meeting that the
Malaysian National News Agency was ready to step up news exchange with Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
Both are members of the Organisation of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA).
“We look forward to receive direct news from KCNA such as sports, economic and culture.
“In the 2008 Olympics, North Korea won six gold medals and we would like to know how you were able to achieve this,” he said.
He said Bernama was prepared to train KCNA reporters if the agency wanted to send them here.
The North Korean delegation was led by Vice Chairman of Public Information Committee Jong Yong Chol while Undersecretary of International Division Ministry of Information Communication and Culture S. Elangovan headed the Malaysian side for the two-day meeting.
Since signing an agreement on information matters in Pyongyang in May 1992, Malaysia and North Korea have held four joint-technical committee meetings on information.
The next meeting is scheduled to be held in Pyongyang.
