Low Risk Of Radioactive Plume Reaching Singapore
SINGAPORE (Bernama) - Singapore says there was little risk of
radioactive plume reaching Singapore and no cause for concern over the radiation
levels of food imported from Japan.
There was also no health reasons to screen passengers from Japan, said a
joint statement issued by various government agencies here.
The statement was jointly issued by the Ministry of Information,
Communication and Arts (MICA), Ministry of Health (MOH), Agri-Food &
Veterinary Authority (AVA), Civil Aviation Authority and National Environment
Agency (NEA).
It said the government has been following the situation at the Fukushima
Nuclear Plant closely.
NEA’s round-the-clock monitoring of radiation levels shows it was safe
and within the normal range of Singapore’s natural background level.
The AVA confirmed that there are no food imports from the affected
regions in Japan since the start of the incident but stepped up its surveillance
of food imports from Japan to ensure that they were safe for consumption.
MOH added that any Singaporean who was outside the evacuation zones will
not need any form of medical assessment.
Singaporeans returning from the evacuation zone who felt unwell, can seek
medical advice at the Emergency Department of their nearby Public
Restructured Hospital, upon their return to Singapore for medical consultation.
For Further Information, MICA has established a micro-site www.gov.sg on
the Government's response to the Fukushima situation as a one-stop information
portal for the public.
