A Turkish teenager killed, another wounded on Turkey-Iran border
VAN (A.A) - 23.03.2011 - A Turkish teenager has been shot dead on the Iranian side of the border with Turkey and another was wounded, Turkish security officials said on Wednesday.
The sixteen and eighteen year-old cousins, Yasar and Turgay Vural, came under fire late on Tuesday as they crossed the border into Iran for alleged fuel smuggling.
The younger boy died at the scene and his body was carried to his village by his cousin, who also sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized for medical treatment.
More than 20 Turks have been killed over the past year by the Iranian security forces while crossing into Iran for alleged smuggling purposes.
Turkish President Abdullah Gul on a visit to Iran last month reportedly urged the Iranian counterpart to "keep a tight leash" on Iran's border guards.
