Cash-for-vote scam: Cong hits back at BJP after fresh expose

New Delhi, Mar 23 (PTI) Indian National Congress on
Wednesday sought to turn the tables on Bhartiya Janta Party
(BJP) on the issue of cash-for-vote scam citing a Tehelka
Magazine's report which claimed that BJP MPs supported by its
senior party leaders were "actively soliciting a buyer" ahead
of the July 2008 trust vote.
"The revelation by Tehelka poses very important
questions. If it is true that BJP leaders, by making their own
MPs sacrificial lambs, tried to sully the trust vote, then it
is a big question mark not only for the Parliament but for
Indian democracy," party spokesperson Manish Tewari told
reporters.
Tewari said the Delhi police which was investigating
the case in this regard should take these reports under the
ambit of its investigation and go to the bottom of the
revelations.
Referring to an episode during the controversial sting
operation during the cash-for-vote scam, the Tehelka news
website said, "Telephone conversations which are now in
exclusive possession of Tehelka clearly reveal that, at least
in this instance, it was the BJP MPs – supported by no less
than men of stature.... who were actively soliciting a buyer
and not the UPA which was hunting for bribe-takers."
