Two Lao-Thai Friendship bridges progress
VIENTIANE,MARCH 23 (KPL)- The construction of third Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge is now 80 per cent completed while the fourth one just takes shape at the moment, accounting for 13 percent.
“The third bridge linking Khammouane province of the Lao PDR to Nakornpanom province of Thailand is now the construction work completed by 90 percent, 43 per cent of passenger building and 78 percent of road access to the bridge,” said Mr. Sayana Phasavath Head of Third Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge Construction Project.
Khammouane province has approved a development plan and established two special economic zones in Thakhek district before the bridge completed.
Mr. Thavone Vorabouth, Vice Head Construction Project of Fourth Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge said that over 1.6 billion baht-bridge (Thai currency) is 480 metres long crossing over Mekong River, which was a joint investment between China and Thailand.
The fourth bridge crossing over the Mekong River from Houaysai district, Bokeo province of the Lao PDR to Chaing Rai province of Thailand started in 2010 and is now on the laying out of concrete poles. The construction work is expected to complete as planned, by 2012.
After finishing the two bridges, they will provide more facilities and link the road R 3 north and road No 12 south and also contribute to socio-economic development.
