Police Rout Iranian Drug Syndicate In Klang Valley

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) - It was the end of the road for a mobile
Iranian drug trafficking syndicate when the police detained nine Iranian men and
seized syabu weighing 11.5kg in the city last Sunday.

Also nabbed was a Thai woman, believed to have been their accomplice in
Southeast Asian drug transactions.

Initial police investigations have revealed that the suspects had been
mobile
in their drug operations, moving from one rented condominium to another,
possibily to avoid police detection.

They had obtained their syabu supply from overseas before storing them at
the
various condominiums before transactions with ready buyers.

Kuala Lumpur narcotics criminal investigation department head Assistant
Commissioner Kang Chez Kiang said the suspects were nabbed at various locations
in Jalan Putra Mas, Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Bukit Bintang.

He said the seized drug was worth about RM3.5 million at street value,
adding that the syndicate had been active in the Klang Valley for the past three
months.

He said that during the separate raids, the police had also seized three
vehicles and RM25,000 (US$8,246), believed to be proceeds from the sale of
drugs.

"The syndicate had obtained the drugs from overseas and often stayed
at rented luxury apartments and condominiums, using them as centres to carry out
their activities," he added.

Kang said the Iranians and the Thai, aged between 18 and 35, were remanded
for a week to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs
Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
