CHINA-INDIA 2LAST

But at the same, India apparently looks for an
official word to roll back its move of calling off defence
ties, which China was keen to resume.
On the trade front too, China appears to opening up,
permitting its top trade officials to attend promotional
campaigns being run by the Indian Embassy here to advertise
the strength of Indian IT, pharmaceuticals, auto parts and
agro products, which were identified as items with good
potential for business in China.
Indian officials hope that the these campaigns will
have some positive impact on Indian exports if China follows
up with steps to remove trade barriers in these areas.
Acknowledging the problems that dogged the bilateral
ties, the China Daily said the "important bilateral
relationship does not follow a balanced pattern of
development".
"While political ties sometimes suffer from suspicion,
economic cooperation is blooming. And while the governments
vow to boost friendly relations, the two peoples are still
trying to get to know each other".
It noted that interaction and cooperation on global
issues between the two neighbours is becoming increasingly
common.
"India supported China at the Copenhagen climate
change summit last May, and similar cooperation took place in
Cancun toward the end of last year," it said.
Economics and trade is without question the area in
which the two countries most closely interact.
Although India was among the first countries to
establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of
China in 1950, the two countries have been unable to resolve
some territorial issues, it said.
Indians argue that China claims the territory on the
basis that it was under Chinese imperial control in the past,
while Chinese say that India claims the territory on the basis
that it was once under British imperial control, it said.
The two countries have been discussing the issue for
nearly three decades, it said adding that despite this, both
governments realise the importance of closer cooperation in
various fields, including global issues.
The two countries have maintained frequent high-level
exchanges and expanded cultural contacts over the past year,
and 2011 is "China-India Culture Year", it said.
