Foolproof security for Pakistani cricketers: Malik
Islamabad, Mar 25 (PTI) Indian authorities have put in
place foolproof security arrangements for the Pakistani
cricket team that will play the semi-final of the World Cup
against arch-rival India in Mohali on March 30.
Shahid Malik, Pakistan's High Commissioner to India,
told the Pakistani media Friday that he had met Indian Home
Secretary G K Pillai, who assured him that foolproof security
had been put in place for the game.
India’s Foreign Affairs and Home Ministries and
cricket board are supervising the security arrangements, he
said.
"We are in contact with them and the issue of security
has been discussed," he said.
Malik recalled that the Pakistani cricket team was
provided all facilities during a previous visit.
Pakistani citizens should go to India with their
national flag to support the team as they did in the past, he
said.
"The presence of Pakistanis in the stadium will help
boost the morale of the players," he said.
The Pakistani team has reached Mohali and the Indian
cricket board has made arrangements for its practice sessions,
he said.
The team is being housed in the best hotel in the city
and the Pakistan High Commission will be in constant contact
with the management, he added.
