BJP demands Dikshit's resignation
New Delhi, Mar 26 (PTI) Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP)
Saturday demanded the resignation of Delhi Chief Minister
Sheila Dikshit in the wake of V K Shunglu committee blaming
her for delays and losses in CWG projects and insisted that
the anomalies related to the event be probed by India's
premier investigating agency, the CBI, to find out and punish
the guilty.
"The fight against corruption in the Lower House of
Parliament, Lok Sabha, and Upper house, the Rajya Sabha,
during the just-concluded budget session will now be taken to
the people. Sheila Dikshit should resign from her post and a
CBI probe should be ordered into all the wrong-doings in
Commonwealth Games," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.
Asked about BJP's new-found faith in CBI, which it has
often described as the Congress Bureau of Investigation, he
said, "It is true that whatever action CBI is taking is due to
opposition pressure and when asked by the Supreme Court."
He maintained that BJP will follow the CBI's
functioning on a day-to-day basis.
"We have to see if the CBI takes the investigations to
their logical conclusion," Javadekar said.
He referred to the tax-evasion case of Hasan Ali,
saying CBI acted only after Supreme Court asked them why
nothing was being done.
"CBI has acted too late. Now there is zero balance in
Hasan Ali's account. It is only after the court's supervision
that CBI is taking note. How ultimately they find proof and
the way they file the chargesheet, we will wait and see,"
Javadekar said Meanwhile, Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta said the
party would even knock the doors of the Supreme Court if
Dikshit does not resign.
"BJP will go to the Supreme Court to seek removal of
Sheila Dikshit. We will also approach the court to seek a
high-level inquiry into the bunglings committed by her
government," he said.
Gupta, demanding her immediate resignation, said the
Chief Minister had taken over all the financial powers without
taking any approval of Lt Governor Tejinder Khanna.
The Prime Minister-appointed Shunglu Committee had
found procedural violations by the Lt Governor and Dikshit for
alleged inadequacies in executing projects related to 2010
Commonwealth Games.
