PUTERA 1MALAYSIA CLUB HUMANITARIAN MISSION ARRIVES IN TOKYO

From Mohd Faizal Hassan

TOKYO, March 28 (Bernama) -- The second group of volunteers from the Putera
1Malaysia Club involved in a humanitarian mission to Japan, arrived in Tokyo at
about 9.20pm (local time) Sunday night to assist earthquake/tsunami victims.

The 40-member mission, including 15 medical specialist and two Nuclear
Radiology specialists at the Haneda Airport, Tokyo after a six-hour flight from
the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) in Sepang.

The second group will join the first batch of 10 volunteers in Tokyo before
moving on to Sendai in Miyagi prefecture.

Putera 1Malaysia Club president Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim said the group
would start their mission Monday by visiting the Malaysian Embassy and
Malaysian students studying in Japan before distributing the 200 tonnes of
supplies that include dry food, blankets, rubber boots and gloves and 1.5
million bottles of water.

"It's our most important and dangerous mission thus far due to the threat of
nuclear radiation. We will require all the relevant assistance and prayers of
the people to help us go through the planned programme smoothly," he told
reporters here Monday.

A 9.0 magnitude earthquake rocked Japan on March 11, and the ensuing tsunami
claimed 10,000 victims while another 16,000 were reported missing while the
leakage of nuclear radiation from the Fukushima nuclear plant has raised alarm
bells.

The team is expected to return on April 6.
