QRC to Implement Urgent Humanitarian Plan in Darfur at Cost of $ 22 million


Doha, March 28 (QNA) - Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) said that it has prepared a plan to meet the urgent humanitarian needs in Sudan's Darfur region for 2011- 2013, within the framework of development and reconstruction stage, at a cost of about $ 22 million.
The plan includes the immediate relief phase and the rehabilitation phase for the return of the displaced.
The first phase (emergency relief) includes run of health centers and training on the distribution of non-foodstuff, provision of clean water and running therapeutic feeding centers therapeutic .. while the rehabilitation phase is covering the return of the displaced to health care, water and sanitation services and education services, creation of job opportunities, social welfare services, financial aid, and the media and the dissemination of the return program and the financial.
A statement issued by the Qatar Red Crescent outlining its humanitarian activities in Darfur, said the projects carried out in Darfur and still ongoing were funded and supported by individuals and different sectors of society from 2008 to 2011, included projects in the fields of healthcare, the provision of safe drinking water, and environmental sanitation in a number of localities and cities and villages of the state of West Darfur, benefiting about 140,000 people.
The statement also reviewed the Qatar Red Crescent projects in the State of West Darfur funded by the State of Qatar for 2010/2011.
