HH Sheikha Moza Awarded Order of the Smile


WARSAW, March 28 (QNA) - HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser has been awarded the Order of the Smile in recognition of Her Highness 'great role in returning smiles on the faces of children through her support and care for them. and in the session of the Council on the twenty-fifth of March in Warsaw Republic of Poland.
The selection of HH Sheikha Moza to win the Order was among six winners from more than 600 candidates for this year, at the Order of Smile Session held in the Polish Capital, Warsaw on March 25 .
HH Sheikha Moza has been nominated by the sick children with cancer who are receiving their treatment in the Pediatric Oncology Section at the Mother and Child Centre in the Polish Capital of Warsaw. The sick Children wrote in their nomination application that they had nominated HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser for her international role and great efforts to return smiles on the faces of sick and disabled children all over the world.
The idea of the Order of the Smile was established in 1968 by the Polish magazine Kurier Polski, inspired by Wanda Chotomska. In 1979 (announced by the International Year of the Child) the then-Secretary-General of the United Nations Kurt Waldheim officially recognized the Order. From then, the Order of the Smile became an international order.
Notable Knights and Dames to receive the Order of the Smile include: John Paul II, Mother Teresa, Tenzin Gyatso, 14th Dalai Lama, King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, Queen Silvia of Sweden, Sarah Ferguson, Tove Jansson, Dagmar Havlova, Jolanta and Aleksander Kwainiewski, Jacek Kuro, Astrid Lindgren, Joanne Rowling, Steven Spielberg, Kurt Waldheim, Nelson Mandela, Hilary Koprowski, Otylia Jidrzejczak, Oprah Winfrey, Peter Ustinov, Tadeusz Isakowicz-Zaleski.
