QSA President Opens Expert Group Meeting on Methodologies to Analyze 2010 Population

Doha, March 30 (QNA) - Qatar Statistics Authority President His Excellency ShiekhHamad bin Jabor bin Jassim Al Thani opened here on Wednesday the Expert Group Meeting on Methodologies to analyze 2010 Population, Housing and Establishments Census Data at the Millennium hotel.
The opening ceremony attended by representatives of statistical organizations of the Gulf Cooperation Council member states, experts from international agencies and concerned departments in Qatar.
His Excellency ShiekhHamad bin Jabor bin Jassim Al Thani delivered the opening speech, highlighting the importance of census results in strategic planning and these data will be one of the pillars to support the national strategy in many aspects.
HE the QSA president further said that the use of the analytical reports outcomes or outputs to be prepared to monitor and evaluate the performance of the operational projects of the National Development Strategy 2011-2016 which was launched earlier Monday by HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani at both the macro and micro as well as to discuss the outcome of the analysis of census data with the decision makers with a view to making the maximium use of these results in drafting new developmental projects or conducting the necessary interventions to enable the ongoing programs and projects to achieve their goals.
Addressing the opening ceremony was also Director of IT Department of QSA, Mansoor Al Malki, who explained the state-of-the-art methods used in data collection and processing of 2010 census.
In the first session, Professor Perm Saxina, of Tata Institute for Social Sciences in India, presented the general framework for analyzing census data from the economic, social and demographic perspectives.
For his part, Director of Population and Social Statistics Department at the Statistics Agency of Saudi Arabia Fahad Al Fhaid, and Statistical Specialist at the Statistics Agency of Saudi Arabia Fahad Al Migrin,presented the saudi experience in utilizing census results in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile Dr. Ahmad Zohry, expert in migration studies and Director of the Egyptian Society for Migration Studies, explained characteristics and flows of incoming labor force in general, with special focus on Qatar.
Dr. Hassan I. Al Mohanadi, Vice Chairman of the Permanent Population Committee of Qatar, presented incoming labor force statistics from the economic and social aspects.
In the second session, Dr. Marwan Khawaja, Head of Social Statistics Section at UN WSCWA, introduced methods of utilizing census data to estimate mortality rates and construction of life tables.
At the end of the first day, Director of social and rehabilitation Department at ShafalhCenter,Dr. Ghassan Abbas, presented the new methods of analyzing disability statistics collected in the census.
