M'SIA-PAKISTAN INVESTMENT FLOWS SEEN GROWING AT LEAST 10 PCT IN 2011
KUALA LUMPUR, March 31 (Bernama) -- Investment flows between Malaysia and Pakistan are expected to grow by at least 10 per cent this year, Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Mukhriz Mahathir said Thursday.
He said among the sectors that could be explored together were
telecommunications, petrochemicals, chemicals and palm oil downstream products.
"There are inherent strengths that both countries have that we could make use and take advantage of so that we don't necessarily have to compete but we can complement each other," he told reporters after officiating the "Business and Investment Opportunities in Pakistan" seminar here.
Present were Pakistan's Board of Investment Chairman Saleem H. Mandviwalla and High Commissioner to Malaysia Masood Khalid.
As of January this year, investments from Pakistan in the Malaysian manufacturing sector totalled RM1.099 billion (US$366 million)involving 26 projects while investments from Malaysia into Pakistan up to 2009 amounted to RM2.567 billion (US$855 million).
Mukhriz said the bilateral trade was also expected to see some growth.
In 2010, total trade between Malaysia and Pakistan stood at RM7.991 billion (US$2.66 billion).
