MALAYSIAN PRIME MINISTER TO VISIT SOUTH KOREA

KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 (Bernama) -- Najib Tun Razak, Prime Minister of
Malaysia, is scheduled to make an official visit to South Korea from April 4-6
at the invitation of President Lee Myung-bak, the Foreign Ministry said.

In a statement, the ministry said the visit would enable the leaders of both
countries to exchange views on bilateral, regional and international issues of
mutual interest.

This is the first official visit by Najib to the republic since becoming the
Prime Minister in April 2009.

It is also to reciprocate the visit of the Korean President to Malaysia in
December last year.

The statement said during the visit, Najib would be accompanied by his wife
Rosmah Mansor and four ministers namely Foreign Minister Anifah Aman,
International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed, Science, Technology
and Innovation Minister Dr Maximus Ongkili and Works Minister Shaziman Abu
Mansor.

While in Seoul, Najib is scheduled to meet President Lee as well as lead
the
Malaysian delegation to a bilateral delegation meeting with the Korean side.

Najib will also call on his Korean counterpart Kim Hwang-sik and attend an
official dinner hosted by the Korean President at the Presidential Palace in
Seoul.

The prime minister is scheduled to address the republic's business leaders
and meet captains of industry at the business seminar on April 5 in Seoul.

He is also expected to witness a number of memorandums of understanding to
be signed between the governments and private sectors of both countries.

The ministry described the visit as significant "as it reflects the strong
and long-standing relations between Malaysia and South Korea which have been
manifested in the areas of trade, investment, education and capacity building
through the 'Look East Policy', technology exchanges, cultural exchanges and
tourism."

South Korea is Malaysia's sixth largest trading partner.

In 2010, total trade between Malaysia and the republic was valued at RM52.90
billion (USD 16.43 billion) with total exports from Malaysia valuing at RM 24.21
billion (USD 7.52 billion) while imports from Korea totalled RM28.69 billion
(USD 8.91 billion).

The year 2010 also marked 50 years of the establishment of diplomatic
relations between both countries.
