POLLS FEVER HOTS UP IN SINGAPORE
SINGAPORE, April 4 (Bernama) -- Election fever is heating up in this island state but it remains a guessing game as to when the ruling People's Action Party (PAP) will dissolve parliament.
Although the general election is not due until February next year, the streets in the Lion City are already gripped with election mood, fuelling speculations that the election might be just around the corner.
A political analyst met here said he did not see any threat to the ruling PAP in retaining its power in the coming election judging from the economic prosperity and development achieved by Singapore in the past 50 years.
He foresees however that a stronger opposition front might emerge this time around due to the changing economic and social landscapes.
The government recently relaxed a ruling allowing candidates to gain support for their campaigns through the use of new media tools such as Facebook and Twitter.
Main political parties have also given a chance to take part in a
pre-election television forum.
