ASEAN FINANCE MINISTERS TO DISCUSS INFRASTRUCTURE FUND AT BALI MEETING

IPOH (Perak, Malaysia), April 4 (Bernama) -- Asean finance ministers will discuss the proposal to set up an infrastructure fund at their upcoming meeting in Bali, Indonesia, on April 7-8, Second Finance Minister Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah said Sunday.

He said the fund would complement infrastructure development among member countries to ensure a balance in the Asean economy, besides expanding the grouping's market size.

"The fund can transform Asean into one of the world's economic giants in the future," he told reporters here Sunday.

He said for a start, the fund would be financed by Asean member countries and the Asean Development Bank.

More fund will later be raised by the private sectors through bond issuance, he said.

Meanwhile, he said Asean was also planning to liberalise the regional insurance sector and the stock market.

"This will enable industry players to spread their wings to other Asean countries," he said.
