PUTERA 1MALAYSIA CLUB'S MISSION TO JAPAN A SUCCESS

From Mohd Faizal Hassan
TOKYO, April 4 (Bernama) -- The Putera 1Malaysia Club's Humanitarian Mission to Japan, in aid of the earthquake/tsunami victims, was a success since aid has reached the Japanese people and Malaysian students affected by the tragedy.

Putera 1Malaysia Club president Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim said the challenges faced by club members in communication and culture would make them more matured for future missions.

Abdul Azeez said all the 100 tonnes of aid was distributed successfully while another 100 tonnes would be send to the country soon.

"I am glad that the mission was a success despite the many obstacles, communication problems, difference in culture, transportation and radiation problems faced during the mission," he told reporters after a meeting between Malaysians in Japan and members of the mission at the Malaysian Embassy here Sunday.

The people of Japan had incurred the wrath of a 9.0 magnitude earthquake which struck Japan on March 11, triggering a tsunami which decimated over 10,000 people and left a nuclear plant crippled while another 20,000 have been reported missing.

The 50-member mission included 19 journalists, 15 medical specialists and two Nuclear Radiology specialists

The mission members are expected to return on April 6.
