HAPPY WITH OVERWHELMING SALES OF MY MEMOIRS, SAYS MAHATHIR
KUALA LUMPUR, April 4 (Bernama) -- Former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad Sunday expressed happiness due to the overwhelming sales of his memoirs 'A Doctor in The House: The Memoirs of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad' as 25,000 copies were sold in the first week.
"I never thought that people will like to read the book because I was quite nasty in many ways," he said in his speech at 'A Night of Celebration of A Doctor in the House: The Memoirs of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad', here.
He also revealed that many things were not mentioned in the memoirs as he felt it was not proper to include, due to personal reasons.
"I don't know if some of them are happy that their name was included but I'm sure if I say something nasty, they will not be happy," he said.
However, he was glad that the book had apparently sold well, saying he received more money than ever, compared with any other sources.
"Hope many people will not use the book as a gift item only but also to read the book and will learn something from there," he said.
The book publisher MPH Group Publishing was planning to translate the memoirs into Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin to garner worldwide reach.
Its general manager Ivy Tan said the Mandarin version would be up for sale in August while the Bahasa Malaysia version would be available by year-end.
She also said about 40,000 copies "flew off" the shelves as to date since its was released on March 8.
"The second print of 25,000 copies will be out by two weeks, however, there will be slight changes in terms of photographs and factual contents," she added.
