Fourteen Lao students receives Japanese scholarship

VIENTIANE,APRIL (KPL) - A send-off reception for fourteen Lao students who will start studying in Japan, was held on 31 March at the Japan residence.
Among these students, seven will enroll on post graduate courses (master and doctoral) in various fields such as agriculture, information science, economics, international relation and civil engineering.
Nine students will enter technology colleges, specialising in computer science, engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, and so forth. Their study will be funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport, Science and Technology of the Japanese Government.
At the reception, Ambassador Yokota congratulated them on their success in examinations held last year. She made a speech of encouragement for the students, emphasising the importance of their studies in Japan and urging them to make significant contributions to national development.
She also expressed to hope that the students will play the role of bridge between Laos and Japan in the future.
On behalf of the departing students, Sithyphone Khounsaknalath, who will start a doctor’s course in field of agriculture at Kyushu University showed a resolution that he will commit to his study and do his utmost for the academic achievement.
The reception was attended by Mr. Ponmek Dalaloy, Minister of Public Health, who is also a President of Lao-Japan Friendship Association, Dr Phonephet Boupha, Director General of Higher Education Department Ministry of Education, Dr. Saykhong Saynasinh, Vice President for Administration, National University of Laos, along with officials of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Education.
