MALAYSIAN PAVILION IN SHANGHAI TO BE DISMANTLED

KUALA LUMPUR, April 4 (Bernama) -- The Tourism Ministry has appointed a company recognised by the World Expo Shanghai 2010 organiser to dismantle the Malaysian Pavilion in Shanghai, China, Minister Dr Ng Yen Yen said.

She said the dismantling work was in adherence to the organiser's
instruction that the structure be demolished and the site restored to its original condition.

The ministry was also looking into the requests by several provinces in China which wanted to build the replica of the Malaysian pavilion in their areas, she said in reply to MP Lim Lip Eng who wanted to know the latest development regarding the pavilion which was built for the six-month exposition ending Oct 31 last year.

Ng said the Malaysian Pavilion had concluded its operation after a
successful outing, receiving 6,903,531 visitors or 9.45 per cent of the
73,084,200 visitors throughout the exposition.

"This is an achievement which we can be proud of considering that there were 176 countries taking part in the World Expo Shanghai 2010," she said.
