RULING ON CROSS BORDER SINGAPORE-JOHOR TRANSPORT WILL BOOST TRAVEL, SAYS TOURISM MALAYSIA

SINGAPORE, April 4 (Bernama) -- The recent move to liberalise the ruling on cross-border Singapore-Johor transport is a good action that will further encourage people to travel to both countries.
Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board (MTPB) director for Singapore, Zalizam Zakaria said:"To me, it is a good sign and a win-win situation for both parties.
"It will be easier for Malaysians to come here, and the same goes for Singaporeans visiting Malaysia.
"The free flow will encourage more cross border visits, especially if, it is for a day trip or such," he told Bernama when asked to comment on the move.
Effective July, taxis plying both sides &959;f the Singapore-Malaysia border w&1110;ll b&1077; &1072;bl&1077; t&959; pick-up &1072;nd drop-&959;ff passengers anywhere &1110;n th&1077;&1110;r respective countries.
Th&1077; implementation date &959;f th&1110;&1109; taxi rule exchange w&1072;&1109; agreed &1072;t th&1077; eighth working meeting &959;f th&1077; Malaysia-Singapore Joint Ministerial Committee for Iskandar Malaysia here on March 30.
Currently, cross-border taxis are allowed to pick up and drop off
passengers at just two places, Ban San Street near Bugis in Singapore, and Pasar Bakti terminal in Johor.
There are some 400 authorised cabs which offer cross-border services -- 200 in Singapore and 200 in Malaysia.
