Turkey's president travels to Indonesia
ANKARA (A.A) - 04.04.2011 - Turkey's President Abdullah Gul left for Indonesia on Sunday at an invitation from his Indonesian counterpart Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
Before flying to this country, Gul told reporters that Turkish and Indonesia had perfect political relations.
"We will sign various agreements to strengthen our relations and upgrade them to the level of strategic partnership during my visit," Gul said.
This will be Gul's first formal visit to Indonesia as president. Yudhoyono visited Turkey in 2010, which was the first one by an Indonesian president in 25 years.
Gul said there was a wide trade, investment and tourism potential between Turkey and Indonesia, and Yudhoyono and he would attend a business forum meeting to activate that potential.
"We hope to increase mutual investments and diversify trade, and aim to eliminate trade imbalance between Turkey and Indonesia," he said.
Gul also said Indonesia was a founder member of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the secretariat general of ASEAN was in Jakarta, and Turkey was attaching great importance to boosting of relations with ASEAN countries.
President Gul will give a conference on developments in Middle East and North Africa at the University of Indonesia, and interview with the state TV channel.
Indonesia is Turkey's sixth biggest trade partner in the Far East, with a 1.7 billion USD of mutual trade volume.
