Turkish Deputy Premier Bulent Arinc meets UN chief

UNITED NATIONS (A.A) - 05.04.2011 - Turkish State Minister and Deputy Premier Bulent Arinc on Monday met with United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at the UN headquarters.
Speaking to reporters on his meeting with Ban after a signing ceremony for a cooperation protocol between state-run Turkish TV network TRT and the UN TV, Arinc cited the UN chief as expressing his appreciation for Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's "powerful leadership and the importance of Turkey."
Arinc said Ban was set to participate in the Fourth UN Conference of the Least Developed Countries, scheduled for May 9-13 in Istanbul.
Commenting on NATO's military operations in Libya, Arinc said Turkey both executed decisions taken by NATO as well as exerted exemplary efforts in providing humanitarian aid to the Libyan people.
Arinc said Turkey had deployed ferryboats and cargo planes to bring wounded Libyans to Turkey for medical treatment, adding that their numbers had reached nearly 700.
Arinc also said Turkey had pledged to set up a hospital in Benghazi.
