IRANIAN STUDENTS FAVOUR MALAYSIA TO FURTHER STUDIES

KUALA LUMPUR, April 5 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has become a major choice for students from Iran to further their studies at the Master's degree and doctorate levels due to various favourable conditions in this country.
The favourable factors include the affordable cost of higher education in Malaysia, moderate cost of living, political stability, and its warm and friendly people.
Director of Iranian Students' Affairs in Southeast Asia, Prof Dr Azizollah Memariani, said currently the number of Iranian students in Malaysia at 13,000 was the highest in the Southeast Asian region.
"They comprise 2,700 students taking the PhD, 3,500 undergoing the master's programmes, and the rest, the first degree and foundation programmes.
"Most of them are taking management, information technology, and culture and human science courses," he said, adding that there were also 50 Iranian professors teaching in various institutions of higher learning here.
Speaking to reporters at the Iranian embassy here, Prof Memariani said Iranian students in Malaysia would be organising their biggest scientific conference over the weekend at Putra University Malaysia.
He said 347 research papers would be presented by Iranian PhD students in Malaysia at the two-day conference.
"The research papers, to be presented in English and the Persian language, will be in the fields of communication, biotechnology and genetics, accounting and economy, social welfare and nanotechnology," he added.
