Malaysia`s Mihas 2011 Attracts 401 Companies 32 Countries

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) - The Eighth International Halal Showcase (Mihas 2011) which opens today will see 401 companies and 32 countries showcasing what they have to offer.

Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) Chief Executive Officer Noharuddin Nordin said Malaysian companies totalled 259 while the rest were international.

China was the largest participating country with 36 companies taking up 40 booths, followed by Indonesia (27 companies, 16 booths) and Singapore (eight companies, 11 booths), he told a press conference here Tuesday.

He said halal consumables took up 41.25 per cent of booths while Islamic capital market and financial services 5.96 per cent. The rest include non-food products, services and government agencies.

Mihas 2011, being held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, is open to trade and business visitors from Monday until April 8 while the general public on April 9.

Noharuddin said Matrade was also bringing in 552 foreign buyers from 49 countries and had arranged 5,204 meetings between them and 607 Malaysian companies.

At last year's event, Malaysian companies recorded RM70 million (US$23.33 million) in immediate sales and RM114 million (US$38 million) in potential sales.
