SALAMFONE LAUNCHES MOBILE SERVICE IN M'SIA
KUALA LUMPUR, April 6 (Bernama) -- Salamfone Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Kuwait's Reach Telecom, Wednesday launched its mobile service here, modelled after the principles of Syariah.
In a statement Wednesday, the company said the Salamfone mobile service will operate using the Maxis network system and top-ups were available at the 7-11 outlets, Petronas stations, Shell stations and at the ATMs of RHB Bank, Bank Simpanan Nasional, CIMB and Kuwait Finance House.
Salamfone's chief executive officer, Kamshul Kasim said four initial key markets that their mobile service will be aggressively marketed are the states of Kedah, Perlis, Terengganu and Kelantan as these states had the highest concentration of Muslim residents in Malaysia.
Based on the soft launches held on March 29 in Terengganu, April 2 in Kelantan and April 4 in Kedah, Kamshul said the interest in Salamfone was positively encouraging with distributors eagerly snapping up stocks of SIM cards.
Salamfone is the world's first Syariah compliant mobile virtual network operator, providing a new class of mobile services focusing on Islamic content.
