MALAYSIAN WOMEN DONATE RP100 MLN TO HELP INDONESIAN STREET CHILDREN

JAKARTA, April 7 (Bernama) -- In yet another effort to help the less
fortunate in Indonesia, the Women's Association of the Malaysian Embassy
(Perwakilan) here, Thursday donated Rp100 million (RM34,800) to help street
children in the Indonesian capital city.
The contribution was handed over to a foundation called Yayasan Kampus
Diakonia Modern (YKDM) at the Malaysian Charity High Tea held at Shangri-La
Hotel, here, Thursday.
The foundation runs two welfare homes in Bekasi, West Java, which give
protection to 200 street children and orphans from here.
Wife of the Malaysian deputy prime minister Noorainee Abdul Rahman,
who was the guest-of-honour at the high tea, handed over the donation to YKDM
coordinator Benny Lumy.
Jakarta Perwakilan president Sharifah Ikhlas Syed Ismail AlJaffree
said the fund-raising event was one of efforts by the association to foster
closer relations between Malaysia and Indonesia.
The highlight of the charity high tea was a fashion show featuring men and
women's wear created from fabrics designed by Deanoor, a brand by Malaysian
company, Deanoor International (M) Sdn Bhd, which has established a sales and
marketing office in Milan, Italy.
The exclusive fabric designs were by the company's owner, Noor Fatimah
Ishak.
This was the second charity high tea organised by Jakarta Perwakilan since
last year.
It was also attended by Sranya Natalegawa, the wife of Indonesia's Foreign
Minister, and the wives of several foreign diplomats in Jakarta.
