Jimmy Choo Hopes To Inspire Young Designers To Become Like Him

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) - World-renowned shoe designer Prof Jimmy Choo is not worried over young Malaysian shoe designers replicating his success.

What scares him is their failure to emulate his high-flying footsteps.

The London-based, Malaysian-born Choo, whose haute couture shoes are coveted by royalty and many world famous women, said his vision now was to serve the country and bring more 'jimmy choos' to the country.

"My heart now is for my country. I will bring more of my skills, my
knowledge to my country. I am not scared they (young designers) copy me but more scared they can't be like me.

"I wish they can, I hope they can," he said.

To be a successful shoe designer, Choo said, young designers must be willing to learn, work long hours and accept public criticism and not be short-tempered.

"If you lose your temper, you will lose everything. What is important to be a good designer is, you must know how to manage your temper, as well," he told reporters after launching his special gallery, Sogno Gallery, in conjunction with the Malaysia International Shoe Festival (MISF) 2011 here.

The four-day festival will only be opened to commercial buyers and VIPs Thursday, and to the public from Friday until Sunday.

Choo said the young generation aiming to become successful shoe designers should seize the opportunity and learn from the experience of experts.

"That's why, I am here today. I am trying to encourage more young designers. We have a lot of talented and intelligent young designers here. They must workhard, no short-cuts," he said.

On his Sogno Gallery in MISF 2011, Choo said it was one of his efforts to inspire young designers.

The gallery would encourage young designers to design and produce their own products, he said.

Sogno Gallery is a showcase or special collection of 'one-off' haute couture shoes 'not for sale', exclusively designed and created by Choo and his couture team in London.
