HAJ AND UMRAH PILGRIMS MUST PURCHASE TAKAFUL SCHEME

KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 (Bernama) -- Muslim travellers must purchase the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Haj and Umrah Takaful Scheme before performing their pilgrimage.

MATTA president Mohd Khalid Harun said the takaful scheme was made
compulsory on all pilgrims to protect themselves and their belongings when they perform the Haj and Umrah.

"The need for such an inclusive coverage is even more urgent when there have been cases of unfortunate incidents and they needed medical treatment and other assistance when abroad.

"This plan can help provide coverage for them. We want all Malaysian Muslims to travel with peace of mind when they are overseas," he told reporters after the signing of a memorandum of understanding between MATTA and Hong Leong Takio Marine Takaful Bhd (HLTM Takaful), here, Friday.

Mohd Khalid signed the MoU on behalf of MATTA while HLTM Takaful was represented by its general manager of Channel Management, Abdul Khalid Salleh.

The price of the scheme starts from as low as RM40 and is provided under three different plans, namely Matta Haj and Umrah Personal Accident Takaful Scheme Basic Plan, Premium Plan and Premium Plus Plan.

The scheme provides for emergency medical evacuation, repatriation, medical expense coverage, funeral allowance and "Badal Haji" (performing Haj on behalf of the deceased and permanently disabled person).

Abdul Khalid said the scheme met the requirements of the Tourism Ministry Tourism as defined under Section 6(1A) of the Tourism Industry Act 1992.
