Turkish defense minister meets his Azerbaijani counterpart

ANKARA (A.A) - 08.04.2011 - Turkish National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul met Azerbaijan's Defense Minister Safar Abiyev in Ankara on Friday.
Speaking prior to the meeting, Gonul referred to the statement of former Azerbaijani President Haydar Aliyev for Turkey and Azerbaijan in which he had described the two countries as, "one nation, two states".
Gonul said Azerbaijan was a rapidly developing country and a center of its region in economic, political and military sense.
"We will assess bilateral issues, Upper-Karabakh, and relations with other neighbors. We will also discuss military issues that interest defense industry and related matters," Gonul said.
Gonul said training was the most important element in military issues, stating that participation in manoeuvres and military exercises would come forefront at the talks.
Abiyev said there was no problem in Azerbaijan and Turkey, and noted that Turkey had supported Azerbaijan in every area since they gained independence.
Abiyev said some part of Azerbaijan's territory was under occupation, "Azerbaijan has no intention to give a piece of land to any country," he said.
He said Armenian Armed Forces should withdraw from Azerbaijani territories unconditionally.
