By P. Vijian

NEW DELHI, April 9 (Bernama) -- A Malaysian, instrumental in introducing
India's first monorail which is currently being built in the financial capital
of Mumbai, has been felicitated by an apex Indian business body.

S. Selvaraja Chinnasamy, general manager of Business Development, India, of
Scomi Group, was awarded the 'Rashtriya Udyog Rattan Award' (national
industrial award) by the Indian Achievers Forum last week in Delhi.

"A Malaysian being recognised and given the award brings good name to Scomi
a nd my country, Malaysia, and its partner country, India.

"It also reflects India's recognition of Malaysian technology expertise in
monorail and paves way for Scomi to venture into the urban transportation
sector," Selvaraja, 55, told Bernama after receiving the award.

The award was presented by prominent Indian politician Sunil Shasthri, who
is also Lal Bahadur Shahstri Foundation chairman.

The ceremony was held in conjunction with the 27th Indian Achievers Summit
and Expo in Delhi.

Mumbai-based Selvaraja, who is also vice-chairman of the Bukit Bintang MIC
division, helped Scomi Engineering Berhad secure the mega project, along with
its consortium Indian partner Larsen & Toubro (L&T) in 2008.

The 19.5-km project, costing RM1.85 billion, cutting through major parts of
the city, is expected to ease traffic congestion and is scheduled to be
completed late next year.
