MALAYSIA CONCERNED WITH MILITARY AGGRESSION ON GAZA STRIP

KUALA LUMPUR, April 11 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is deeply concerned over the
disproportionate attack by the Israeli military forces on the Gaza Strip since
April 8, said Foreign Minister Anifah Aman Sunday.

He said the attack had resulted in a number of civilian casualities and if
unchecked, would lead to greater destruction and further loss of lives,
especially among the civilian population in the Gaza Strip.

"Malaysia, therefore, urges all involved parties to refrain from any
provocative act and calls on the international community, especially the Middle
East Quartet, to act swiftly and decisively to persuade Israel to cease its
military operations in the Gaza Strip to prevent further escalation of
violence," he said in statement here.

Malaysia also called on the international community to increase efforts to
urge and persuade Israel to remove impediments which led to the failure of peace
talks and make efforts to the resumption of such talks, he said.
