FIRST ENGINE
The manufacturing process for Turkey's first motor vehicle has started. Hasan Basri Ozdamar, owner of the Minisan in central province of Kayseri, and the Erciyes University in the province succeeded in manufacturing a single cylinder engine upon directives of Minister of Industry Nihat Ergun.
ZANA TO RUN IN ELECTION AS AN INDIPENDENT CANDIDATE
The Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) has decided to support 61 independent candidates in 39 provinces in the upcoming election. Leyla Zana became one of independent candidates to be backed by the political party in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir.

Research company A&G's owner Adil Gur commented on the current situation in Turkey two months before the elections. Gur said that perception of economy and success had raised Justice and Development (AK) Party's votes to 47 percent in 2007. He said it looked like Republican People's Party's (CHP) family insurance project would have a positive effect on the party's votes, adding that young males could also vote for CHP as a result of its promises on shortened military service. Adil Gur also noted that Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) would not have any problems with the electoral threshold and all studies showed that its votes would exceed 10 percent. Finally, regarding Peace & Democracy Party (BDP), Gur said the party's votes had significantly increased in the last year and reached 7 percent. He said 28-32 deputies could be accepted from BDP.
CHP'S TOP OFFICIALS LEFT OUT OF THE LIST
CHP chairman Kemal Kilicdaroglu has not included 78 deputies in his party's candidate list. The wind of change within CHP had reflections on the candidate lists as well. Names such as Onder Sav, Hakki Suha Okay, Kemal Anadol and Berhan Simsek were not included in Kilicdaroglu's long-expected list. Preparing a radical list, Kilicdaroglu included, apart from himself, the names of 22 deputies from the 101-member CHP group in his party's candidate list.

A new arrangement is coming for Turkish contractors doing business in Libya and who are facing difficulty in liquidity. Contractors' projects in Libya and in other countries will receive the support of Turkish government and their loans would be restructured.

However, Turkey's top 50 companies have not arrived in Kazakhstan yet," Tuymebayev stressed.

STUDENTS' PROTEST
Thousands of high school students have protested the scandal during the university entrance exam in nationwide demonstrations from Hakkari to Istanbul, from Trabzon to Ankara. In Istanbul, students marched to Taksim Square demanding resignation of the chairman of the Higher Education Board (OSYM). Students also decided not to attend classes on Friday to protest the scandal.

TOURISM SEASON'S DURATION RISES TO 7 MONTHS FROM 5
The recent developments in Northern Africa had a positive impact on Turkish tourism. Turkish tourism experts expect higher reservation figures in 2011 compared to the past years. As early reservations took place more than expected, hotel owners in Turkey decided to extend the tourism season for two months. The tourism season in Turkey normally takes place between June and October. In 2011, however, tourism season would begin in May and end in November. Turkish hotels will provide jobs to an additional 100,000 people in 2011.
