Turkish Red Crescent to send more food, ambulances and medical supplies to Libya

MERSIN (A.A) - 11.04.2011 - Turkish aid organization, Turk Kizilayi (Turkish Red Crescent), will send more food, ambulances and medical supplies to Libya this week.
Speaking at a meeting in southern province of Mersin on Sunday, Turkish Red Crescent's head official Tekin Kucukali said his organization was planning to send a ship carrying 2,000 tons of foodstuffs, 2 ambulances and various medical supplies to Libya on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Kucukali said old people, women, children and the handicapped were the most defenseless groups in Libya at the moment.
He said the Turkish Red Crescent had so far sent stoves, a mobile kitchen, ambulances, blankets, tents and foodstuffs to Libya.
"We are trying to feed and provide clothes for everybody regardless of their political positions," Kucukali said.
Kucukali also noted that Red Crescent was currently working to turn a ship into a mobile hospital to ease the evacuation of the wounded people from Libya.
Earlier in April, Turkish Red Crescent Aid Society sent a nine-member team of experts and 290 tons of humanitarian assistance to Libya. The assistance included food items, tents, gas masks, diapers, hygiene sets and medical equipment.
Red Crescent also sent three fully equipped ambulances and two natural disaster vehicles in a ship that departed from southern province of Mersin.
