M'SIAN DPM CHAIRS MEETING TO DISCUSS BID FOR WORLD HERITAGE SEAT
KUALA LUMPUR, April 12 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin
Yassin chaired the Malaysian National Commission for Unesco Tuesday which
discussed among others Malaysia's preparations for its bid for a seat at the
World Heritage Committee.
Muhyiddin, who is the Education Minister, is also the national commission's
chairman.
According to a statement issued at the end of the two-hour meeting, other
issues discussed were the setting up of Unesco Clubs in Malaysian public
institutions of higher learning and the reports on the commission's activities.
The commission comprises the secretaries-general of the Education Ministry,
Higher Education Ministry, Information Communication and Culture Ministry;
Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry; Women, Family and Community
Development Ministry and the Foreign Ministry.
Malaysia is a member of Unesco since June 16, 1958 and is a member of Unesco
executive board which comprises 58 countries.
