EGYPT SEES NO LET-UP IN TRADE WITH MALAYSIA
By Mohd Khairi Idham Amran
KUALA LUMPUR, April 13 (Bernama) -- Egypt's bilateral trade with Malaysia is
expected to continue on a positive note this year despite political conflicts in
the Middle East and North Africa region.
Egyptian Ambassador to Malaysia Mohamed Saad Ebeid said this was based on
the performance of exports from this country to Egypt in January which increased
by almost 120 per cent compared to the same month last year.
"Malaysia's exports to Egypt were US$128 million in January (this year)
compared to US$58.1 million (in January) last year," he said when visiting
Bernama headquarters here Tuesday.
He said that last year, trade between the two countries totalled US$1.5
billion with Malaysia exporting US$1.4 billion to Egypt.
He said the big gap between Malaysia's import and export to Egypt was mainly
due to the dependency of the Arab country on this country's oils including palm
oil and fossil oil.
