MALAYSIA ON RIGHT TRACK FOR IT GROWTH
KUALA LUMPUR, April 15 (Bernama)-- The Malaysian government has assumed a
very significant role in creating an environment that is highly conducive for
information communication and technology (ICT) growth and development.
Intel Malaysia Country Manager,Sales and Marketing, Prakash Mallya said
the government' focus in enhancing the well-being of all Malaysians and
transforming Malaysia into a developed and high-income economy by 2020
was clearly on track.
The World Economic Forum's recently published "Global Information Technology
Report (GITR) 2010-2011" showed that ICT continued to drive innovation,
productivity and efficiency gains for many economies across the world, including
Malaysia, he said in a statement Friday.
Based on GITR's Networked Readiness Index, which offered a comprehensive
assessment of the present state of networked readiness across the world,
Malaysia did relatively well among the 138 economies covered by the report,
Prakash said.
"Ranked 28th, Malaysia made a slight improvement in its overall score this
year and was placed 10th for ICT readiness of the society as a whole," he added.
Moreover, Malaysia, the only non-high-income nation among the top 30, is
currently classified as an upper-middle-income country by the World Bank, as of
December 2010.
