SINGAPORE'S 11TH GENERAL ELECTION SET FOR MAY 7

SINGAPORE, April 19 (Bernama) -- Singapore will hold its 11th General
Election (GE) on May 7.

According to the Writ of Election for Singapore's next GE issued by the
Prime Minister's Office, nomination day is fixed on Wednesday, April 27,
followed by polling day on Saturday, May 7.

Polling day has been declared public holiday.

For the GE, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has appointed Yam Ah Mee, chief
executive director of the People’s Association, as returning officer.

About 2.35 million voters are eligible to vote in the coming polls.

There will be 87 wards, carved out into 12 Single Member Constituencies and
15 Group Representation Constituencies.

The election deposit for each candidate will be S$16,000 and nomination
papers can be filed from 11am till noon on April 27.
There will be nine nomination centres for the coming GE.
