Agencies Urged To Be More Aggressive In Tackling Graft
KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) - Malaysia is capable of addressing the graft problem if the agencies involved, including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), discharge their duties in a more aggressive manner.
Senator Mohamad Ezam Mohd Noor, however, admitted that the MACC appeared to be undertaking its role well.
"We can see lately that we've been taking steps towards becoming a
graft-free nation, and MACC seems to be quite aggressive, including in terms of its media advertising. They should enhance it further," he said on the Kerusi Panas programme over Bernama Radio24 here Tuesday night.
He cautioned that efforts to fight corruption would be a long-drawn process that called for the cooperation of all sections of society, including politicians.
Ezam noted that information communication technology (ICT) would contribute to spreading the word against corruption faster, especially among the younger generation.
In addition, he said the fight against graft should not be politicised by any political party or individual.
Ezam said this was because the country had put in place a transparent legal system that was fair to everybody.
