ISA IN BANGKOK EXTENDS UNTIL MAY 24
By Jamaluddin Muhammad
BANGKOK, April 20 (Bernama) -– The imposition of the Internal Security Act (ISA) at seven districts in this capital, which ends next Sunday, has been extended to May 24.
National Security Council director Thawil Pliensri said the Cabinet meeting Wednesday agreed to extend the ISA for another 30 days to maintain peace and public order.
The seven districts are Dusit, Phra Nakhon, Watthana, Ratchathewi, Wang Thong Lang, Pathumwan and Porn Prap Satru Phai.
The government took into consideration the Red Shirts and Yellow Shirts supporters' protest, here.
The Yellow Shirts have been encamped near the Prime Minister's Office since Jan 25, as they are not satisfied with the way Bangkok handled the Thai-Cambodian border dispute.
The fortnightly protests by the Red Shirts revolve around seeking the release of their detained supporters and justice for those who were killed during clashes between troops and protesters last year.
The ISA, among others, prohibits illegal gathering and allows the deployment of troops in helping to maintain peace and order.
