MAS STEADFAST ON SMART SCHOOL PROJECT
JERANTUT (Pahang, Malaysia), April 21 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Airline System Bhd (MAS) is steadfast on schools to improve their academic achievement through the its Smart Project.
Its chairman, Dr Munir Majid said the project was aimed at correcting the social and economic imbalance in the community through the development of human capital.
"So far 19 schools nationwide are involved in the programme as part of our contribution to make the Standards-based Primary School Curriculum introduced by the Ministry of Education a success," he told reporters after launching the MAS Smart Project at Sekolah Kebangsaan Jerantut Jaya here Wednesday.
Munir said MAS, Malaysia's national carrier, was also developing the "Rakan Radio" programme in schools, which would emphasise on correct English pronunciation.
"The programme will be fun and interesting to entice pupils to improve their command of English language," he added.
MAS started the Smart Project in 2007 with Sekolah Menengah Raja Tun Uda, Bayan Lepas, Penang being the pioneer school and schools chosen under the programme would be adopted by MAS for four years.
"Through the programme, MAS provides motivation for students and build their self-esteem to steer them away from unhealthy activities," he said.
Examination clinics, seminars, courses and study visits are also organised for students, who would be sitting for examinations, he added.
Outstanding teachers and students are given free air tickets to selected destinations in Southeast Asia, he said, adding that, it was part of the company contribution to improve the education of young people in the country.
