REDUCTION IN ROAMING CHARGES MAY BE EXPANDED TO INDONESIA AND THAILAND



KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 (Bernama) - The reduction in mobile roaming charges may be expanded to Indonesia and Thailand, said Information Communication and Culture Minister Dr Rais Yatim.

"So far, only Malaysia and Singapore have signed an agreement to reduce the mobile roaming charges. We may do the same with Indonesia and Thailand.

"In the context of Asean community, we will bring this up at the Asean information ministers meeting," he said in reply to a supplementary question from Senator Zamri Yusuf in the Senate here Thursday.

Rais Wedyesterday said that mobile phone users in Malaysia and Singapore will enjoy 20 percent discount for voice calls and 30 per cent for SMS when using roaming services effective May 1.

The reduction by mobile network service providers Celcom, Digi, M1, Maxis, SingTel, Star Hub and U-Mobile will cover postpaid and prepaid users.
