DIRESPECT FOR DRESS CODE THREATENS TO ERODE TRADITION

IPOH (Perak, Malaysia), April 21 (Bernama) -- The tradition and culture begins to erode with an attitude of making light and disrespect for specific dress codes, said Crown Prince of northern state of Perak Raja Dr Nazrin Shah.

Describing the attitude as a subtle intrusion, he said such circumstances should not be allowed to happen, especially in a nation striving for a higher civilization.

"Decorum, an observance or requirement of a dress code for a particular event, is part and parcel of discipline that reflects the pinnacle of human behaviour.

"Even a king must abide by the dress code of a function he attends. He is not exempted from the dress code to honour and respect the ceremony and guests.

"In Islam, for example, haj and umrah (small haj) pilgrims, regardless of whether they are kings, presidents, rich or poor, must adhere to the dress code," he said when opening the 75th Perak Islamic and Malay Customs Council (MAIAMP) Conference here Thursday.

He said similarly, in other religions, men have to take off their hats in church while Sikhs were required to wear turbans when entering gudwara.

Raja Dr Nazrin, who is also MAIAMP president, received RM9.65 million in business tithes from Tenaga Nasional Berhad (RM4.44 million), Perak branch of Lembaga Tabung Haji (RM2.61 million), Bank Kerjasama Rakyat (M) Berhad (RM2.07 million), GPB Corporation Sdn Bhd (RM300,000) and Produktif Kualiti Medical Supply Sdn Bhd (RM200,000).
