CHINESE COMPANIES KEEN ON MALAYSIA'S RENEWABLE ENERGY DRIVE
By Ng Che Yean
BEIJING, April 21 (Bernama) -- Many Chinese companies have enquired about Malaysia's renewable energy drive, particularly the government's policy on the sector and the incentives provided.
Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin who had a roundtable meeting with captains of industry in Shanghai during his one-week visit to China, said he had explained to them the government's policy, the approval process and the incentives offered to those who were keen.
"The Malaysian government welcome more Chinese companies to invest in renewable energy as it is one of the sectors that the Malaysian government wishes to promote," he told Malaysian journalists after the roundtable meeting.
He said some companies also expressed interest to invest in the Malaysian hospitality industry and had asked for better arrangements in terms of cost of travel and products.
Muhyiddin also welcomed an offer from Hua Wei, a Chinese telecommunication company, to establish a training centre for the telecommunication industry in Malaysia.
For Chinese companies that were interested in investing in Malaysia, he said, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority was ready to help them.
During the roundtable meeting, Muhyiddin witnessed the exchange of
memoranda of understanding between Malaysian companies and their Chinese counterparts, including between Schneider Electric (China) Investments Co Ltd and Curtin University, Sarawak, on a solar farm project.
Others were between Metro Kajang Holdings Bhd and Guoao Investment and Development Co Ltd on a green technology development project, and between Imaprima Sdn Bhd and China Triumph International Engineering Co Ltd on a cement clinker project.
Earlier, Muhyiddin met with Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng.
