Japan PM thanks Russia for help in coping with quake aftermath

KHABAROVSK (Itar-Tass) - In a letter to the Khabarovsk
territory governor on Friday, Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan thanked
Russia for help in liquidating the aftermath of a massive earthquake in
Japan.
"Japan received an offer to help from Russian President Dmitry
Medvedev at an early stage. We are deeply grateful to Russia for sending
big search-and-rescue teams, for sending blankets and other humanitarian
aid, special devices needed for taking measures in connection with the
situation at the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant, as well as for offering
energy aid," the prime minister stressed in his message.
"We will not forget the solidarity Russia has demonstrated," said a
letter by the Japanese prime minister to Russian Khabarovsk Territory
Governor Vyacheslav Shport.
"A month after the quake was a very difficult period," the Japanese
prime minister said, stressing that Japan felt that it was not left alone
in its mischief.
"At the present moment we are making efforts to stabilize as soon as
possible the situation at the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant by
mobilizing all resources for the settlement of the problems that have
emerged," he noted.
The letter stressed that the quick arrival of search-and-rescue teams
from different countries and regions, their immediate work in the
quake-hit regions, the foodstuffs, medicines, blankets they had brought
and other assistance strongly encouraged the people.
Besides, they received thousands of origami cranes made by children
from other countries with wishes to restore the damaged regions, the
letter said.
