No improvement in Sai Baba's health condition, still critical

Puttaparthi (Andhra Pradesh), Apr 23 (PTI) The condition of ailing spiritual leader Sathya Sai Baba continues to remain very critical and his low blood pressure was a cause of great worry to the doctors treating him.
"Sai Baba continues to be in a very critical condition
on the 27th day of his treatment in the Sri Sathya Sai
Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Super Speciality
Hospital," director Dr A N Safaya said in a medical bulletin
issued in south Indian town of Puttaparthi Saturday evening.
86-year-old Sai Baba was hospitalised on March 28
following problems related to heart and respiration.
"Sai Baba is still breathing with ventilator support.
The episodes of low blood pressure are still a cause of great
worry to the doctors treating him," the bulletin said.
"The Baba continues to be under constant attention of
the panel of doctors attending upon him," the bulletin said.
Earlier in the day, Dr Ravi Raj, director of Andhra
Pradesh Medical Education also said that the Sai Baba's
condition was very critical.
"His (Baba's) heart is very weak. His blood pressure
is usually low but is maintained at near normal level through
medicines. His liver function is very poor and kidneys are not
functioning, so he has to undergo dialysis," Ravi Raj said.
"As far as his central nerve system and brain
functioning is concerned, Sai Baba is on continuous sedation,
because he is connected to the ventilator, so it becomes
difficult for us to assess his consciousness level
accurately," Ravi Raju said.
Meanwhile, there was speculation about the possibility
of a succession war breaking out among the members of the
Satya Sai Central Trust which manages several welfare
activities across the country.
Who after Sai Baba will manage the Trust's activities
and what will happen to the social work? Will they continue or
stop? These questions are doing the rounds among the followers
of the spiritual leader.
