NIGERIAN MAN DETAINED, GODOWN USED TO STORE STOLEN ITEMS FOUND

KLANG (Malaysia), April 26 (Bernama) -- The Selangor police discovered
electrical appliances, worth more than RM200,000 (US$1=RM2.99) and believed
stolen, from a godown in Taman Sentosa Perdana here Monday.

South Klang district police chief ACP Mohamad Mat Yusop said the goods were
discovered following the arrest of a 37-year-old Nigerian man, who then led the
police to the premises.

"The Nigerian suspect was arrested yesterday, together with 12 men and a
woman who are suspected to be involved in the hijacking of cargo goods," he told
a media conference here Tuesday.

He said the godown was believed to have been rented by the Nigerian man to
store the stolen goods.

Among the items found in the godown were 116 television sets of various
brands and sizes, DVD players (48), Sanyo refrigerators (21), micro-wave ovens
(four), radio (three) and aluminium kettles (119).

Mohamad said some of the goods found in the godown had been packed for
export to countries including in the African continent.

"The suspect is believed to be the middleman in the export of the goods," he
added.

It had been reported recently that the police had crippled a syndicate,
believed to be responsible for the hijack of five cargo containers, worth more
than RM1 million, in the Klang Valley, with the arrest of several suspects in
Negeri Sembilan, Perak and Selangor.
